Finding people to wargame with?
Have you just taken the leap into wargaming? Perhaps you've watched countless hours of battle reports, painting tutorials and feel like you are rearing to go, until... You realise you've got no one to play with. 😔
Well, fear not, Commander! Because here are a few quick tips to help you get gaming and enjoying the hobby you love!
1) START LOCAL
The easiest people to get on board with wargaming is those around you. Siblings, friends, family members should be your go to number 1. If they perhaps need a little introduction or convincing, tell them about the universe you're playing in. Explain the grimdark universe of 40k and how death lurks around every corner, or the tales of heroes, legends and glory to be found in Age Of Sigmar.
I can't count the amount of times I've peaked someone's interest in the 41st millennium by using pop culture or simply saying something like "It's kind of like Star Wars, but more gorey" 😂
If you explain the depth and wonders that can be found in the world of wargaming, chances are, they will want to get on board with you!
2) YOUR LOCAL STORE
Whether this be a games workshop or friendly local gaming store (FLGS), most of these places host regular events for either new or experienced players. All of whom already have the same interests as you and so you will be ready to get gaming straight away!
Speak to a staff member or send them a message and they will be happy to help!
3) FACEBOOK GROUPS
Obviously take this one with a little caution and the usual rules about Internet safety apply, however the world wide web is a wonderful place to find local players around you!
When I first moved to a new city for university (Brighton, UK), I knew no one who was into wargaming, however by simply typing in on Facebook, Brighton Wargaming, I came across a local group who meet every week to wargame and just have some drinks, it was a blast!
It didn't matter your skill level and everyone was incredibly encouraging towards new players which was incredibly accepting and was what actually what got me fully back into wargaming.
Likewise, I did the exact same thing when I moved back home into a far more rural area, there were still plenty of local groups full of welcoming individuals just eager to roll some dice!
So stop making excuses and get out there and find your local community today!
